University of Northern Colorado Jazz Camp
July 19-24, 2009

The University of Northern Colorado Jazz Studies Program will be presenting the 6th Annual UNC Jazz Camp on the campus of the University of Northern Colorado from July 19 – July 24, 2009. Registration is currently open for middle school, high school, and college instrumental students, and registration will remain open on a space available basis until the camp begins. Students participating will work with nationally respected artist faculty and will take part in student big band and combo ensembles, instrumental master classes, jazz theory and listening classes, nightly faculty combo concerts, and a special performance by the Colorado Jazz Orchestra.

This one-week camp, designed to be intensive, challenging, and inspiring, will be led by faculty from the University of Northern Colorado Jazz Studies Program and special guest faculty Clay Jenkins of the Eastman School of Music and Don Aliquo of Middle Tennessee State University. Trumpeter Clay Jenkins is a member of the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra and was formerly with the Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich, and Count Basie Orchestras, and saxophonist Don Aliquo is a former member of the Buddy Rich Big Band and has recently recorded with jazz bass virtuoso Rufus Reid. In addition to Jenkins and Aliquo, UNC faculty includes Dana Landry (piano), Jim White (drums, formerly with Alison Krauss), Erik Applegate (bass), Andy Dahlke (saxophone), Robert Murray (trumpet), Nat Wickham (trombone), Dave Stamps (composer), Kevin Whalen (trumpet), and Matt Fuller (guitar).

The UNC Jazz Camp will feature the following student and faculty concerts:
Monday, July 20: Jazz Camp Faculty Concert at 7:30 pm in UNC Frasier Hall 90
Tuesday, July 21: Colorado Jazz Orchestra Concert “Under the Stars” at 7:30 pm at the UNC Garden Theater
Thursday, July 23: Student Combo Concert at 2:30 pm at the UNC Garden Theater
Thursday, July 23: Jazz Camp Faculty Concert at 7:30 pm in UNC Frasier Hall 90
Friday, July 24: Student Big Band Concert at 1:30 pm at the UNC Garden Theater

All performances are free and open to the public. The rain site for Garden Theater performances is UNC Frasier Hall 90. Tuition is $385, and room and board is $250 if staying on campus.
