THEATRE K-12 at UNC

There are many different ways for K-12 students to get involved with the
School of Theatre and Dance at UNC.

1. Annual Theatre for Young Audiences Production
2. Creative Spaces
3. High School Day

Theatre for Young Audiences Tour
Mission:
Each year, the School of Theatre and Dance at UNC will produce a quality play for young audiences for our community. Play selections will entertain, speak to the intelligence of young people, and challenge our audiences with the many difficult questions that face our world. Seeking to be active members of our community, we believe that young people should be exposed and have access to quality arts experiences at a young age.

JUNGALBOOK
Theatre for Young Audiences by Edward Mast
Langworthy Theatre
Directed by Andrea Moon
April 26, 27, 28
Rated G (recommended for ages 7 and above)

Adapted for the stage from the Rudyard Kipling classic novel by Seattle playwright Edward Mast, Jungalbook tells the classic story of Mowgli, the human child raised by wolves deep in the jungle of India. He is befriended by Baloo the bear and kept under the watchful eye of Bagheera, the panther.

Mowgli learns that he is not actually a wolf, but instead a human who must defend himself against Sherakhan, the fearsome tiger who killed his parents. When Mowgli breaks jungle law, he is forced to choose between facing the consequences, or leaving the jungle forever. Jungalbook, winner of a Distinguished Play Award from the American Alliance for Theatre and Education, embodies the spirits of loyalty, adventure, and betrayal found in Kipling’s original stories.
