AUDITION AND TALENT SCHOLARSHIP

OF THEATRE ARTS & DANCE

STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO AUDITION AND/OR
INTERVIEW FOR ENTRANCE INTO ALL DEGREE PROGRAMS

THEATRE ARTS PROGRAM

(Please note: No Special application form is required for the Theatre Arts Program)

Audition Dates:     

Friday, October 19  2007; 1:30-4:30 pm
Saturday, February 23, 2008
Friday, March 7, 2008; 1:30-4:30 pm

Audition Requirements:  In addition to a resume and two letters of recommendation:
Acting:                       Prepare a 2 minute monologue of your choice.
Design Technology:      20 minute interview, plus design resume & portfolio
presentation (if available)
Theatre Education:     

15 minute interview and review of academic record, including grade point average. 

Theatre Studies:   Grade point average of 3.00, Interview, and a 300 word typewritten essay, describing why you would be interested in pursuing a theatre degree with specialization in one or more of the following areas of interest:  Directing; Theatre Education (Secondary); Technical Design (Scenic Design, Costumes, Lighting, Sound, Props); or Technical Management (Technical Director, Stage Manager, Scenic Artist, Master Electrician, Costume Design). 

MUSICAL THEATRE PROGRAM

A separate admission application form, resume, and two letters of recommendation and audition are required for entrance into the Musical Theatre degree programs.

Audition Requirements for Program/Talent Scholarship:  You will be given a five minute audition time slot.  1) prepare 16-32 bars each from two songs of a contrasting nature (i.e., classical/musical theatre, or ballad/up-tempo);  (2) prepare a 30-second to one minute monologue;  (3) If you are a dancer, please include a short dance in your allotted audition time.   (4) for curriculum placement purposes, you may be asked to sight-read your voice part from a choral piece and demonstrate keyboard sight reading ability by playing the vocal line only from a vocal/piano score. 

*You may also audition for the School of Music Vocal Performance Program on this date as well.

Talent awards range from $1,000 to $250 annually and are renewable based on a student’s ability to maintain a 3.00 GPA, maintain Theatre major status, and participate in CPVA mainstage productions.  These awards are given in the performance areas of design, acting, and  musical theatre.  Students are considered for these awards when they perform their audition.
