Suggested Audition Repertoire

Dr. Lauren Murray is the Instructor of Oboe and Associate Director of the School of Music at The University of Northern Colorado.  Prior to her appointment at UNC, Dr. Murray served on the faculties of Murray State University, Austin Peay State University, the University of South Florida, and Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

As a recitalist, Dr. Murray performs regularly with ‘Harmonie del Sur’, a duo with trumpeter Robert Murray, performing new and existing works for oboe and trumpet, as well as chamber wind music. In the spring of 2005, the duo presented their New York recital debut with performances at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall.  HdS has been invited to and performed masterclasses, recitals, and lecture-recitals at a variety of venues around the country including the International Double Reed Society Conference and Convention, International and National College Music Society Meetings, the National Symposium for Music Instruction Technology, Colorado Music Educators Association, and the North Texas Conductor’s Collegium.

Dr. Murray has appeared in recital at The Moab Music Festival, New Music Tampa, the Bonk Festival of New Music, and The Winter Sun Music Festival.  She has held English horn positions with the Owensboro (KY) and Irving (TX) Symphonies, and during her tenure at the University of South Florida performed regularly with the Florida Orchestra. She has appeared as a soloist with the UNC Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band, the USF Symphony Orchestra and the North Texas Wind Symphony. Dr. Murray can be heard on recordings on the Emeritus, Klavier, GIA, Symphonic Discoveries, and Bonk labels.

Dr. Murray received the D.M.A in Oboe Performance from The University of North Texas where she was a student of Charles Veazey.  While in Denton, she played with the North Texas Wind Symphony, and continues to record with the group in the summers on their recording project “Teaching Music Through Performance in Band” published by GIA.  Dr. Murray received the M.M from Yale University where she studied with Ronald Roseman, and the BME from Stetson University in Deland, Florida.
