UNC Community Arts and City of Greeley "Paint the Town" project join forces to create a mural on the old Frank's Seed and Hatchery building. The mural, called 'hands in the dirt, head in the sky' was the culmination of a class that looked at mural painting from the historic to the very practical aspects of large scale public paintings.

The Office of Community Arts acts as a liaison between the Arts at UNC, the campus, and local and regional communities. Community Arts coordinates programs that provide individuals with life-long opportunities to encounter, enjoy and learn from various community-based arts activities either as audience or as hands-on participants. Our programs utilize the wide-reaching cultural and educational resources of the College of Performing and Visual Arts and the thriving regional community of artists, performers and teachers. As the arts are for everyone, we strive to serve the broadest and most diverse audiences possible.
UNC Community Arts offers hand-on classes throughout the year, coordinates an annual campus and community collaboration of thematic programs that include public events, and produces the annual UNC Arts Gala Benefit. In addition, members of the office staff are involved in partnerships with professional, educational and community-based organizations to further the university’s service to the region and to the state, and to establish broad-based relationships within the many disciplines that constitute the arts community.

Community Philosophy
Arts & Community
Quite simply, the concept of community arts means that access to and participation in the arts is open to everyone, and that the idea of participation means every individual gets to choose his or her own level of involvement. The options are wide open. You might be in the audience at a Shakespeare festival, a patron of the local symphony, up to your elbows in mud at a beginner’s class in ceramics, or out on the dance floor at a blues fest. You can immerse myself in the rich and varied world of the arts for the sake of self-expression, new knowledge, greater understanding or pure enjoyment. You can bring down barriers and make connections whoever you are, wherever you are.
The University of Northern Colorado Office of Community Arts strives to help individuals find and explore those connections through the arts and to provide a wide variety of opportunities for participation. UNC Community Arts is deeply committed to access to the arts through education, collaboration and advocacy.
