Colombian-born Luis Guillermo Vicaría received his Bachelor of Music with an emphasis in Double Bass from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana of Bogotá. Between 1994 and 1999, he played with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá and appeared as a soloist with the Javeriana Chamber Orchestra in 1997. In 2000 he received a post-graduate diploma in performance from the Royal College of Music in London where he was highly commended in the annual bass competition. During his stay in London he played with the RCM Symphony under the direction of Jean Pascal Tortellier, Danielle Gatti and Sir David Willcocks among others. He toured Italy with the London Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Prior to his arrival in the United States in 2003, Vicaría was the Director of the Music Department at the Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá.
In 2001 and 2003, Luis performed at the Pergine Spettacolo Aperto Festival in Italy; he appeared as guest conductor for the same festival in 2006 with performances in Italy and Spain. He appeared as guest conductor of the “Encuentro de Orquestas Infantiles” in Bogotá in 2005 and 2009. Luis has conducted the UNC Symphony Orchestra, the Greeley Chamber Orchestra, TCU Symphony, Fort Worth Youth Orchestra, Fort Worth Civic Orchestra, Orquesta de la Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira, and Orquesta del Conservatorio del Tolima, among others. He holds a Master of Music in orchestral conducting from Texas Christian University, where he studied with Germán Gutiérrez, and is concluding doctoral studies in orchestral conducting at the University of Northern Colorado.
