Undergraduate Music Admissions
Undergraduate admission to the School of Music is by application and audition. You should plan to come to campus on one of the audition dates listed above or you may make arrangements for a special audition time. If a visit to campus poses a problem because of distance, you may submit a performance tape and a resumé. Repertoire requirements for auditions differ from department to department. Write or call the chairperson of your area for further information. Your admission audition will also serve as a music talent scholarship audition.
Graduate Music Admissions
Prospective Graduate students should make application to the School of Music and arrange a time to audition. If you are unable to come to campus to audition at one of the school-wide audition times listed above, you may make arrangements with the chairperson of your area to audition at a mutually agreeable time. Repertoire requirements for auditions differ from department to department. Write or call the chairperson of your area for further information. Some departments accept a performance tape and resumé in lieu of an on-campus audition from those applicants living at a significant distance from UNC.
Graduate students will take advisory examinations in music history and literature, as well as music theory. Applicants for master's and doctoral programs in music education will also take advisory examinations in music education. The results of these exams are used by the student and his/her advisor to design a program of study that meets the individual needs of the student.
Scholarships and Financial Aid
• A number of scholarships are available through the School of Music. Your admission audition will also serve as a music talent scholarship audition.
• To be considered for UNC scholarships or financial aid, you must be admitted to UNC and complete both a FAFSA scholarship application form and a Universal Scholarship form no later than March 1st. Both forms are available from the Admissions Office or the Student Financial Resources Office and can be accessed here: http://www.unco.edu/OFA/Applications/Applications.asp
• Other types of financial aid are available for qualified applicants. It is important for you to complete the standard Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application, available in your counselor's office or from the UNC Student Financial Resources Office, in order to be considered for need-based financial assistance. Please complete the FAFSA and send it to the national office as soon as possible. For first priority consideration, the form must be postmarked by March 1st.
