ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN COLORADO SCHOOL OF MUSIC

The UNC School of Music represents an excellent choice for both undergraduate and graduate students. Placement of graduates is a high priority. UNC graduates are found in professional symphony orchestras, opera and musical-theatre companies, premier U.S. military ensembles, prominent metropolitan free-lance positions, professional chamber ensembles and internationally recognized jazz groups. UNC-prepared educators hold positions at universities, colleges, high schools, junior highs and elementary schools throughout the world.
Faculty

Ensembles
UNC School of Music ensembles are central to the School's excellence, and to the students' experiences. UNC Bands, Orchestras, Opera Theatre, Choirs and Jazz Bands consistently have been listed among the best in the nation and continue to grow in quality and reputation.
UNC offers abundant opportunities for you to demonstrate your increasing artistic ability. You will join some 40 faculty and 450 music majors who present more than 250 cultural events each year. The UNC School of Music boasts more than 50 performing ensembles, a number of which are nationally recognized. Every year, UNC music students and ensembles are finalists and winners in state, regional, national and international collegiate and professional competitions

The School of Music maintains a two-fold objective of providing the strongest preparation possible in music education, theory, history and technology, while encouraging the highest standards of performance.
The University has a tradition of preparing outstanding music teachers at all levels, elementary through university. The School of Music takes great pride in the quality, comprehensiveness, and innovation of its academic program, which works closely with performance programs to ensure the best possible professional preparation, utilizing the Music Technology Center in order to keep abreast of current technological innovations in music. Music education graduates enjoy an extremely high employment rate, which they attribute both to the quality of preparation they received at UNC and to the School of Music's outstanding reputation.

Music Technology
The Music Technology Center is a recognized leader in the field of music technology. The Center includes state-of-the-art large and small recording studios and control room, a computer laboratory and a keyboard laboratory. Students have access to the latest equipment and techniques for digital recording and editing, music composition and sequencing, film scoring and interactive multimedia design.
Computers, MIDI keyboards and music publishing software are available to every student. The Music Technology Center gives students the opportunity to explore career paths and to experiment with music technology applications in any field of study. From education to performance, the Center's labs provide music students with powerful tools for learning and experimentation.
Activities
The School of Music maintains an annual calendar of more than 250 events, including recitals, concerts, operas, musicals, festivals, fairs, symposia, workshops, clinics and special artist series on campus. Off-campus appearances and performances by UNC faculty and students are an important part of the University's Outreach Program.
Each year, more than 5,000 non-UNC students are hosted on the UNC campus in festivals, fairs, honor groups and competitions. These include the Colorado All-State Band, Western States Honors Orchestra and the UNC/Greeley Jazz Festival.
Facilities
Surrounded by trees and grassy spaces on UNC's Old Campus, the School of Music's Frasier Hall includes practice, rehearsal, and classroom spaces, as well as the Music Technology Center. Ensembles also may rehearse and perform at Foundation Hall, a few blocks away, and major performances utilize the superb Monfort Concert Hall at Greeley's Union Colony Civic Center. Several smaller venues are available for recitals, as well.
UNC claims one of a handful of music libraries in the nation dedicated exclusively to research materials, media and supportive information required by the nation's most rigorous music schools. In addition to books, scores and recorded music, this outstanding facility features a listening lab equipped with CD players, videocassette recorders and DVD players, as well as a multi-media instruction room.
Accreditation
The University of Northern Colorado is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music and the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges, and is certified by the Colorado Department of Education and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.

The University of Northern Colorado has won acclaim for its educational emphasis on the arts, business, and human and social sciences. UNC is a 236 acre campus and serves approximately 11,000 students.
