Performing and Visual Arts Magnet Philosophy
"We use a mirror to see our faces; we use the arts to see our souls."
George Bernard Shaw.
The Greeley Central High School Performing and Visual Arts Magnet program is founded on the belief that students of the arts are well-rounded, intelligent, motivated and creative achievers who are involved in and concerned about their school, their neighborhood, their city, and their world. Our Arts Magnet offers a four-year experience in the arts which is unparalleled anywhere in Northern Colorado.
All incoming freshman take the Arts and Culture class, a one semester course in which they are exposed to 6 weeks of instruction in each of the three major stands of the Magnet: theatre, music, and visual art. From this introductory class, students choose to enroll in one of the major strands, within which they take between eight and twelve courses over their four-year careers.
Arts Magnet students are highly encouraged to take advantage of Greeley Central's extensive Advanced Placement course menu, several offerings of which are included in the Arts Magnet itself. Magnet students are also highly encouraged to take courses from all three strands. As part of their immersion in the arts, and to support each other, all Magnet students are required to attend a minimum of one theatre, one music , and one art event per semester.
