SUMMER 2009

For seventy-five years the University of Northern Colorado’s summer stock theatre program—the Little Theatre of the Rockies – has entertained audiences and transformed the lives of thousands of actors, designers, and theatre technicians. Little Theatre of the Rockies was the brainchild of Helen Langworthy and through her energetic leadership the program lovingly referred to as LTR came into existence in 1934. Fearless in the face of the changing fortunes of the economy, the impact of America at war over this expanse of time, or by shifts in taste, the Little Theatre of the Rockies has thrived on the campus of the University of Northern Colorado.

Today, the Little Theatre of the Rockies continues to be a venue for exceptional theatre that reaches a broad and diverse audience of Greeley residents and those venturing to the campus for an extraordinary theatrical experience. This history of the Little Theatre of the Rockies provides a window onto the unique role that LTR has played in the history of theatre in the American West. It is an honor and a privilege for the College of Performing and Visual Arts and the School of Theatre Arts and Dance to be the current standard bearers for the cause of quality theatre in Northern Colorado and beyond. I encourage you to take advantage of the wonderful events and productions associated with the 75th Anniversary season of the Little Theatre of the Rockies (details begin on page 4).

Of course, the College of Performing and Visual Arts has an array of other activities to enjoy and participate in during the summer months. Join us on Tuesdays in July for the Concerts Under the Stars, enroll in one of our many Hands-On Arts workshops, and take a leisurely stroll through the UNC Galleries. I also encourage you to take a look at the opportunities for young people through our Creative Spaces and UNC Jazz Camp programs.
