Admission Requirements- ON-CAMPUS MA PROGRAM
Students who have completed an undergraduate degree in art or art education or the equivalent and whose grade point average is a minimum of 3.0 based on the last 60 semester hours of coursework may apply for the Master of Arts degree program in the School of Art & Design. An applicant who does not have an undergraduate major in art or art education, or its equivalent, will be required to complete specified coursework or areas of study before beginning the program.
Admission to the Master of Arts in Art & Design degree program is approved by the faculty of the School of Art & Design following an evaluation of the applicant's admission materials.
Admission to the School of Art & Design's Graduate Program is a two-part process:

Apply to the UNC Graduate School

Concurrently submit the following application materials to the Coordinator of Graduate Studies in the School of Art & Design:

Submit 10 images of your personal art work, and 10 images of your students' work. If no student work is available submit 20 images of personal work. This should be submitted on a CD or DVD containing digitized images of work in a format which will open on either a Mac or PC (Power Point, jpeg, pdf, etc.) No slides please.

Also on the CD or DVD, include a two page statement by the applicant
elaborating the reasons for pursuing advanced studies in art education. -

Three letters of recommendation, preferably from professionals
working in the field sent to the School of Art & Design.

Admission Deadlines
Applications for admission to the Master of Arts program in the School of Art & Design are reviewed twice each year. The due date for fall semester applications is March 1. You will be notified of your admission status after April 15. Spring semester applications are due October 1, with notification due after November 15. No applications will be reviewed during the summer. Applications received after the deadline will be reviewed the following semester. Applicants need to submit materials to the Graduate School at least 20 working days before the School of Art & Design's deadline.

A limited amount of departmental financial assistance is available through teaching and graduate assistantships.
